Free smart thermostat
Pick the thermostat and you get a smart thermostat with your new AC system at no charge. A smart thermostat lets you set a schedule once and change the temperature from your phone, so the house can be cool when you get home without the AC running all day while nobody is there.
It also makes a new system easier to live with. You can check what it's set to from anywhere, turn it down from bed, and stop wondering who changed it. A thermostat is the part of the system you touch every day, so an old dial or a basic digital model is worth replacing when the rest of the system is new.
Or a free first year of maintenance
Pick maintenance instead and your first year of maintenance on the new system is free. Regular maintenance is how a new system stays efficient and catches small problems early. A visit generally includes checking the refrigerant pressures and electrical parts, cleaning the condensate drain so it doesn't back up, and looking over the coils, the filter and the airflow. Thermostat or maintenance: which should you pick?
There's no wrong answer. Ask about both when you get your quote and pick the one that fits your home.
The smart thermostat may fit if...
your current thermostat is an older dial or basic digital model, you want to control the AC from your phone, or the house sits empty during the hottest part of the day.
The first year of maintenance may fit if...
you already have a smart thermostat you like, you want someone to look over the new system after it has been running a while, or you'd rather not remember to book a checkup.
10-year parts and 10-year labor warranty
New systems come with a 10-year parts warranty and a 10-year labor warranty. The difference matters. A parts warranty covers a part that fails, but someone still has to find the problem, get the part and install it, and that labor is part of what a repair costs. With a 10-year labor warranty on top of the 10-year parts warranty, the work is covered too, not just the equipment.
